CŒUR D'OR

Screenwriter Murray Watts / A Wokenkord Production

Heart of Gold is a film which dramatizes the life of Eric Liddell in China following his famous Gold Medal at the 1924 Paris Olympics. This proposed movie is an effective sequel to the Oscar award-winning film Chariots of Fire. The screenplay has the blessing and powerful endorsement of Eric Liddell’s three daughters and strong commendation from many others. The screenplay by Murray Watts has been widely praised, attracting the attention of producers and directors in Hollywood, Canada and the UK. Heart of Gold was commissioned by Tricord Canada and this is a co-production with Wovenkord.

Eric Liddell’s profound love of China (where he was born in 1902) is central to the story and his courage and self-sacrifice during the Japanese occupation of China is a model of human virtue, inspiration and hope against all the odds. His example to the many Chinese children he taught in Tianjin and the British and American children he taught in the Japanese Internment camp in Weihsien was the greatest gift of love, kindness, forgiveness and true humanity. Eric Liddell’s life story in China is all about another kind of race, a gold medal in human perseverance and undying vision for China and the world. His death, at such an early age, was not the end of his great influence, but the beginning.

Heart of Gold will be part of his enduring legacy.
